Treating Your Panic Attacks with Counseling
A panic attack is a false alarm from the body's threat system: racing heart, breathlessness, a conviction that something catastrophic is happening. The sensations are real even though the danger is not.
Counseling works by breaking the loop between sensation, fear of the sensation and avoidance. Most people learn to shorten attacks and then to have fewer of them.
Medication is sometimes added, and our counselors and psychiatric providers coordinate that together.
