Psychiatry Q & A

What is psychiatry?

Psychiatry is an area of medicine that focuses on your psychological, emotional, and social well-being. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who diagnoses and treats mental health conditions, including addiction and substance use disorders.

Corebella Health & Wellness is an addiction medicine practice that takes a holistic and integrative approach to care. The team provides many services to help those struggling with an addiction, mental health challenges, or both.

Who needs psychiatry?

Anyone struggling with an emotional or psychological problem benefits from psychiatry at Corebella Health & Wellness. Some of the conditions the psychiatry team treats include:

  • Opioid dependence
  • Alcohol dependence
  • Heroin addiction
  • Drug addiction
  • Substance abuse
  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Anxiety
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Depression

You don’t have to have a mental health condition to benefit from psychiatric care. Many people seek out help when they’re struggling with a stressful life situation or a change in mood that’s affecting their ability to manage their daily life.

What are psychiatry services?

Corebella Health & Wellness offers many psychiatry services to meet a wide range of mental health needs. These services include:

Initial psychiatric evaluation

Before making any specific recommendations, the team at Corebella Health & Wellness conducts an initial psychiatric evaluation. The evaluation assesses how you think, feel, and behave and helps your psychiatrist develop the most effective treatment plan.

Your initial evaluation may also include a visit with the primary care team to evaluate your physical health and well-being and rule out a medical condition that might explain your mental health symptoms.

Your psychiatrist also asks about your treatment goals.

Medication management

Many psychiatric conditions benefit from medications to ease symptoms. After your initial psychiatric evaluation, the team talks to you about the types of medications that might benefit your mental health.

The team specializes in addiction medicine and offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using medications such as Suboxone®, Vivitrol®, and Sublocade®.

The type of medication best suited for you depends on your diagnosis and symptoms.

Individual counseling

Individual counseling is an important psychiatry service. During these sessions, you and your mental health counselor talk privately about your mental health needs, developing strategies to help you cope or overcome problems.

Group counseling

Working with others struggling with the same mental health challenges as you may help you feel less alone. Corebella Health & Wellness provides group counseling for patients struggling with substance abuse.
